Title : Acid Vs. Disco
Label : AJP001
Year : 2007
A Side : 2 Tracks
B Side : 2 Tracks
Released June 2007

  Comments :

PRESS INFO : Limited 4 trackers of disco and acid edits getting the approval from the like of Mock & Toof, Toby Tobias, Crowdpleaser or DFA's James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy. Harry Thumann's Underwater & Azoto's San Salvador classic re-edited and acidified for maximal impact, Jack Frost & The Circle Jerks' Acid Man with tempo fixed and bonus peak time Corrosion 2006 finally re-released.

ROUGH TRADE : Head to head a brace of disco, reshaped by some clearly mental groovers, including harry thumann's always stunning 'underwater' and a cheeky brace of acid killers, which are both well nigh lethal in content.

SMALLFISH RECORDS : This limited edition little beauty comes to us from the Mental Groove stable and is, in fact, exactly what it says it is... Acid vs Disco. One side has 2 wicked Acid cuts with Techno and House influence (in fact one of them sounded rather familiar...) and the other side is a Disco edit style that comes with an absolutely top notch edit of Harry Thuman's 'Underwater' with added 303... pure class and, in my opinion, worth the asking price on its own. Don't delay if you fancy a copy though!

PHONICA : A limited 4 tracker, with two disco and two acid edits that have been getting the approval of Mock & Toof, Toby Tobias, Crowdpleaser and DFA's James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy. On the disco side there are two absolute disco stunners - Harry Thumann's "Underwater" & Azoto's "San Salvador", whilst on the acid side you get Jack Frost & The Circle Jerks' "Acid Man" and one more we can't put our finger on edited and acified for maximum effect on the dancefloor! Limited!

VOICES RECORDS : 4 rollin, funkin, spankin, jackin and twistin tunes - all spiced up with a bit 303 !!!!!!

DOUG BURKART: More acid house influenced brilliance from Arnaud Gratigny.(AJP)ACID HOUSE

ABSOLUTE RECORDS : SUBLABEL VON MENTAL GROOVE LIMITED MIT RE-EDITS BEKANNTER ACID UND DISCO-SMASHER. AJP IST, SO SCHAUT ES AUS, STRENG UND VIELLEICHT NUR AUF DIESES RELEASE LIMITERT.

BOOMKAT RECORDS : Head to head a brace of disco, reshaped by some clearly mental groovers, including Harry Thumann's always stunning "Underwater" and a cheeky brace of acid killers, which are both well nigh lethal in content - so good it should be made illegal i tell ya.

Partyplatte.

Title : Take A Love Break
Label : Mental Groove Limited (MGLTD010)
Year : 2005
B side : Our Favorite Acid Loops
Released november 2005

Comments :

WARPMART: this is one of the tastiest acid tracks we've heard in ages, beautiful production and a killergroove! The B-side features loads of locked grooves selected by A Jackin' Freak and Oliver fromMental Groove of their favourite acid loops. They've selected some absolute classics. This one's highly limited so catch it while you can!

TOM BAKER : Arnaud Gratigny aka A Jackin\' Phreak is back doing what he does best. Namely re-creating the best bits of old skool acid house and making them sound so powerful and bang up to date. This time the addictive, dripping wet acid line drops a disco vibe courtesy of an old female vox sample, some old school drums and big-time party feel. As you\'ve come to expect from A Jackin Phreak the production quality is superb. Flip it over for a bunch of acid loops for you to muck about with, courtesy of Arnaud and Oliver Mental Groove. If that doesn\'t sell it to you, there\'s always the yellow vinyl and smiley face you can use as a nice wall hanging once you\'ve worn it out. 5/5

BATTLEMONKEYS.NET: We've seen A Jackin Phreaks' productions on the RZ imprint and Brique Rouge and if you love acid house as much as we do you'll pick up two copies of this latest release on the Mental Groove LTD imprint.Take Hardfloor` Derrick Carter` Chris Carrier & Hector Moralez stir and voila you have the A side of this monster. Holy shit this is the acid house sound you've been looking for! On the flip we get roughly 30 locked acid grooves for even more acid mayhem.

PHONICA RECORDS : Every famous acid line you have ever wanted is on this record as a locked groove, from Pierre's Fantasy Club to Acid Man (Jolly Roger), Fast Eddy, Can You Dance, Tyree's acid crash; the list goes on. On the flip "A Jackin Freak" is a punding floor shaker to make everyone go crazy. A pretty damn essential record.

SMALL FISH RECORDS : A Jackin' Phreak lives up to his name with an Acid House beast of a track that rocks it in fine style Old-School sounding and very authentic complete with a selection of well known and classic Acid Trax loops on the flip. Bound to be huge and, as it's on the Mental Groove Limited label, hugely sought after.

Title : Acid Sex E.P.
Label : RZ (RZ06)
Year : 2004
A side : Acid Sex (Gay Fornication Mix)
B side : Acid Sex (’88 Evil Acid Baron Mix)
             Come On (The Rework)
Released june 2004

Ok it's time to jack ! acid house, & house music in general, is body & mind music. but also something very hot, very sexual. this is how i feel about those loved 88 chicago acid classics. This is the aim of House music : no message, just enjoy the good moments , ephemeral pleasures , enjoy it now. pleasure is the message, hedonism... SEX, that 's how house music is all about ...

Comments :

SMALLFISH  RECORDS : As retro as you like, this one.three tracks of authentically old school sounding acid with a trax style housed up feel = absolutely monstruouly tweaked out 303 lines and kicking beats that should get any dancefloor moving. Quality stuff

NRG MUSIC : Weather the ladies like it or not` ACID IS BACK!!!! A hot and slippery acid line with some simple drum machine asthetics and some apocalyptic atmospherics. A 3 versions are hot little numbers paying homage to the chicago greats. Acid baby` acid!

FLEXX RECORDS : Info on the label tells us this an '88 record with artwork looking a bit to much like a TRAX record. This is of course a wink (;)) to those loved '88 chicago acid classics and succeeds damn fine. Very cool oldschool acid house! Start jackin'!

FORMIC RECORDS : Aciiiiiiied ! 3 tracks finest 303 action,
some well known elements (Master C & J), but still freshhhh !

JOYRIDE RECORDS : RZ imprint takes it back to '88 with three old school acid house classics that you won't find anywere else. that's right, the 303 was dusted off and out & came these three unruly tracks. on the A side is the "Gay Fornication Mix" - A devious floor shifter with heavy delay and tweaked out 303 like a motherfucker. On the flip, the '88 Evil Acid Baron Mix' supplies us with a darker more morbid, bass heavy acid workout with a monotone vox and sweeping hats. At last 'Come On (The Rework)' drillsin with it's rolling claps and sharp synth keys. Dark and melodic 12".

AW

Title : Acid House Obsessions E.P.
Label : Brique Rouge (BR037)
Year : 2004
A side : Raw Jackin’
B side : Show Me The Bass

Raw Jackin’ (Obsessive Mix)
Released may 2004

Comments :

Dean Thatcher - DMC Update
“The artist & title says it all really, & it's done with a very authentic sound & style. "Raw Jackin'" hosts the A-side, built on throbbing machine percussion, hissing hats, tweaking 303, & a voice constantly reminding you that "House music is a state of mind". First up on the flip is the sparse but very effective "Show Me The Bass", closely followed by "Raw Jackin' (Obsessive Mix)", which gets funky & features the line "Never gonna let you go", & believe me it won't. A Jackin' Phreak's "Acid House Obsessions EP" is nothing short of filthy fun & we love it. 5/5.”

TOM BAKER APRIL 04 : 3 Killer bare bones Acid House tracks here, just like they were designed to sound back in ’88. The main cut being a percussive driven tension builder, with really good use of reverb to make the whole cut sound kinda wet but dry at the same time. “House music is the state of mind” is repeated in “House Nation” style over the top, the claps, snares and acid line are all pure Chicago. Over to more old skool sounds but this time some cracking effects are added. The third makes more of a feature of the snapping percussion from the main cut and has similar old skool rantings, if any of these tracks get played and at least one member of the audience doesn’t shout “Aciiiiieeed” repeatedly I’ll eat my hat!

Tyree Cooper (Chicago) : yo man, thats my shit!!!!! that peter pan, thats my shit!!!!! nice job.i still play it from time to time. Both the original and the remixes.

Jez Torrance (NA - Bristol)
'reviewed in next issue of iDJ - recommended'

Tom Stephan (various - Worldwide)
'-rod & pat nice feat. joe good like the dub 7/10 '

Ryan Shaw (Back to Basics, Smirnoff Global, Deep down & Dirty - Leeds)
'Been hammering the jackin phreak mix for time now used to always start my sets with it perfectly turns a floor BRILLIANT!!!!!!'

www.PlasticSoup.com : It was always going to be difficult to beat the A Jackin' Phreak Acid Remix from the earlier release, which I'm still playing to this day. A Jackin' Phreak's Acid Dub doesn't lose enough of the hip-house rap to satisfy the anti-vocal crew, or have the same impact for those who enjoyed the vocals originally (like me!). The elastic analogue bassline on the Mugwump Reversion is a great sound, and the track features an intense, panicked breakdown sure to rock floors. David Parr's remix plods along nicely with some nice bleepy touches, but nothing matches the earlier A Jackin' Phreak take. Leo Belchetz (6/10)

Ralf c/o DISCOID : 'A Jackin’ Phreak Acid mix’. If this doesn’t make you move your arse you can start taking into consideration the possibility of passing your evenings in some certain church meetings.

Corrosion
(The Acid Made Me Do It ! Ep # 5) Aciiieeed! 05 2006

  Comments :

GROOVE MAG  06.2006 : „So many questions have been made about this new dance craze called acid“ hieß es vor etwa 20 Jahren und nach wie vor sind Produzenten vom Sound der 303 fasziniert und DJs bringen Tanzflächen dazu, den Schlachtruf „Aciiiiied!“ zu skandieren. „The Acid Made Me Do It“ bietet fünf neue Tracks des alten Sounds, besonders „Corrosion“ des Franzosen A Jackin' Phreak bietet eine aktuelle Interpretation des original Acid-Sounds ohne dazu zu stark auf Zitate zurückzugreifen. Aber auch bei den Produzenten, die genau das auf dieser EP tun, spürt man ehrliche Liebe zu Acid . iWeb

Pong Jacks
(House Invaderz 2/5) HY:BR (HYBR1202) 2006

Pong Jacks MP3

  Comments :

James Mowbray, Mixmag may 2006 issue 180 : Video game inspired acid-house. Taken from the forthcoming 'House Invaderz' project, this track is inspired by retro video games. it's a stripped down warehouse track with lots of squelch and a rumbling bassline.****

Jon Freer’s Reviews – 2nd May 2006 : The pick of the bunch is A Jackin’phreak’s “Pong Jacks”, where jolting digital keys and foghorn synths are put through their paces by rough kit percussion and manipulated scratches.

Nathan Coles :
Loving this piece of Electronic Aciiiid house
thank you very much!

Leo Belchetz from www.plasticsoup.com :
The 303 remains the focal point on A Jackin’ Phreak’s ‘Pong Jacks’. 80s video game samples and a farting bassline break things up, but the standout feature here for me is the shuffling breakbeat that lies underneath. ‘Higher State Of Consciousness’ for a new generation. 7/10

Cardoen Fabien :
Dans la série des HY:BR, c'est pour moi le meilleur...un véritable hommage aux jeux issus des 80's! le break laisse entrevoir une fin de partie...a jackin'phreak win, & play again! pong again!

James Talk :
"his stuff is always wicked, love this too, will be supporting"
